The Great Feast & Annual Celebration of The Sacred Patriarchal & Stavropegial Monastery of St. Irene Chrysovalantou, is quickly approaching !



This celebration attracts thousands of faithful every year to venerate the Miraculous Weeping Icon of the Saint. The feast brings to Astoria thousands of people from all over North America, to witness the lively presence of the Saint, and Her obvious and famous miracles.

The Service of the Special Blessing of the Water for the beginning of the Feast & Vespers, officiated by His Excellency Metropolitan Paisios of Tyana prior to the Vespers Service. After His Grace Bishop Vikentios of Apamia blessed all the workers and volunteers of the Festival.

Metropolitan Paisios of St. Irene Chrysovalantou in Astoria NY began with the Service of the Special Blessing of the Water for the beginning of the Feast & Vespers.
His Grace Bishop Athenagoras of Sinopi, representative of His All-Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch arrived and will be Presiding at the festivities this weekend.
His Grace Bishop Vikentios blessed all the Vendors and Volunteers who will be working with the Festival.

Patriarch Kirill and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Liturgy





Ο Οικουμενικός Πατριάρχης Βαρθολομαίος και ο Πατριάρχης Μόσχας και Πασών των Ρωσιών Κύριλλος Α’ συλλειτούργησαν στον ιερό πατριαρχικό ναό του Αγίου Γεωργίου στο Φανάρι, σήμερα Κυριακή 5 Ιουλίου 2009. Στη διάρκεια του πατριαρχικού συλλείτουργου χειροτονήθηκε Πρεσβύτερος ο διάκονος του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου π.Βησσαρίων Κομτζιάς, ο οποίος μόλις ολοκλήρωσε τις μεταπτυχιακές του σπουδές στη Θεολογική Σχολή της Αγίας Πετρούπολης. Ο Πατριάρχης Μόσχας Κύριλλος πραγματοποιεί από χθες Σάββατο την πρώτη του ειρηνική επίσκεψη στην Κωνσταντινούπολη και το Οικουμενικό Πατριαρχείο. GANP/DIMITRIOS PANAGOS

Orthodox Patriarchs face the Press after deliberations




Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia faced the Press after 2 hours of meetings between the two Orthodox Churches at the Phanar.
Both Patriarchs answered questions regarding hard issues which have been facing both Churches for years. Estonia, Ukraine, and Halki were among some of the questions raised by the journalists.

Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to visit Constantinople





The Newly elected Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church will arrive Saturday July 4, 2009 for a two day visit to the Phanar in Constantinople and meet with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on their First Official Meeting since Patriarch Kirill was Enthroned early this year. Upon arrival to the Phanar a Doxology Service will be take place welcoming His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and His Entourage, and later the two will meet in private and then the two sides will meet and discuss issues concerning both Churches. His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will host a Dinner in Honor of Patriarch Kirill. On Sunday the two will Co-Celebrate the Holy Liturgy at St. George Catherdral. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill will also visit Ankara on Monday before returning to Moscow on Tuesday.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartrholomew visited Triglia.





Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew visited Triglia Vithinias, the Suburb of Brusa in Asia Minor on July 2, 2009. His All Holiness was escorted by Metropolitan of Austria Michael, and Metropolitan Timotheos of Vostron from Jerusalem, The Consul General of Greece to Istanbul Nikolaos Sigalas, and many Orthodox Christians from Rafina and New Moudania and Triglia from Halkidiki, Greece. His All Holiness Officiated at the Liturgy which was conducted by Archimandrite Theodosios from the Holy Mountain assisted by the Deacons of The Ecumenical Patriarchate. The Mayors of Rafina,Andreas Kehagioglou and New Triglia Halkidiki Kostas Sgouros from Greece arrived for a three day stay to visit their former homeland where their forefathers once lived and prospered. Today some 2500 live in Triglia a small town on the outskirts of Brusa, Turkey. In 1923 with the exchange of population between Greece and Turkey there were no more Greek Orthodox living in the area. After the liturgy His All Holiness Officiated at a Memorial Service for all of those who lost their lives in the area and to remember the forefathers.
After the Memorial Service His All Holiness led the faithful through the town and visited the former Monastery and Cemetery remembering all of those who once lived in the area.
