Bishop Elect Sebastian to be Ordained at Holy Trinity Cathedral December 17, 2011.


NEW YORK – Bishop-elect Sevastianos, who was elected Bishop of Zela by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate last week, will be ordained to the Episcopacy by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America on Dec. 17, at the Archdiocesan Cathedral of Holy Trinity in Manhattan. Concelebrating with the Archbishop will be Hierarchs of the Holy Archdiocese of America.
The Ordination will take place during the Divine Liturgy starting at 9:30 a.m. The Archdiocesan Cathedral of Holy Trinity is located at 319 East 74th Street in Manhattan.

Metropolitan Savas Celebrates 1st Liturgy at The St. Nicholas Cathedral, Pittsburgh







Today, Dec. 9, 2011, His Eminence Metropolitan Savas, assisted by the Clergy of his Metropolis, presided over the Divine Liturgy, for the first time as Metropolitan of Pittsburgh.

Metropolitan Savas Celebrates 1st Liturgy at The St. Nicholas Cathedral, Pittsburgh, a day after been Enthroned by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios at same Cathedral.

ΕΝΘΡΟΝΙΣΗ ΝΕΟΥ ΜΗΤΡΟΠΟΛΙΤΗ ΠΙΤΣΜΠΟΥΡΓΚ

Μέσα σε εορταστική ατμόσφαιρα πραγματοποιήθηκε η τελετή ενθρόνισης του νέου Μητροπολίτη Πιτσβούργου Σάββα στον Ιερό Καθεδρικό Ναό του Αγίου Νικολάου στο Πιτσμπουργκ της Πενσυλβάνιας την Πέμπτη 8 Δεκεμβρίου 2011. Της τελετής προέστη ο Αρχιεπίσκοπος Αμερικής κ. Δημήτριος, ενώ παρέστησαν ο προκάτοχος του κ. Σάββα, πρώην Πιτσβούργου Μάξιμος, ο Μητροπολίτης Ντητρόιτ Νικόλαος, Ορθόδοξοι Ιεράρχες, κληρικοί και πλήθος πιστών.

Thursday, Dec. 8, 4 p.m., His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, will preside at the enthronement of Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 419 South Dithridge Street, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

A reception in honor of Metropolitan Savas will follow the enthronement, hosted by the Metropolis of Pittsburgh and the Cathedral of St. Nicholas. The next morning, Friday Dec. 9 Metropolitan Savas will celebrate his first liturgy as Metropolitan of Pittsburgh, assisted by clergy of the Metropolis. Members of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese, Orthodox Metropolitans and Bishops, Ecumenical Leaders, dignitaries and other invited guests are expected to be present at the Enthronement.

The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople elected on November 3, His Grace Bishop Savas of Troas as the Metropolitan of Pittsburgh to succeed Metropolitan Maximos, who retired on September 1, 2011.

The entire Enthronement ceremony will be broadcast Live on the Internet Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011 beginning at 3:30 p.m. (EST) and a link will be available on the home page of the Archdiocese: www.goarch.org

Ecumenical Patriarch Welcomes Vice President Biden to the Phanar

His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew welcomed the Hon. Joseph Biden, Vice President of the United States to the Sacred See of St. Andrew, First-called of the Apostles. The historical first visit of a sitting Vice President of the United States took place on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul, Turkey, and lasted approximately two hours.
Vice President Biden was greeted at the entrance to the Patriarchal compound by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America, together with the Chancellor, the Chief Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod, and the Patriarchal Court.
His All-Holiness met with the Vice President in his personal office for a private conversation. Among the issues discussed were religious freedom in Turkey, the reopening of the Theological School of Halki, Turkey’s accession to the European Union, and the ecological initiatives of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Afterward, the Vice President was introduced to members of the Holy and Sacred Synod, clergy and laity of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, as well as prominent members of the Greek Orthodox community in Turkey and abroad, including Archons of the Order of St. Andrew in the United States. Finally, Vice President Biden was guided through the Patriarchal Church of St. George.
